ICC Bangladesh will organize a day-long Workshop on Settlement of Documentary Credit Disputes through ADR: Review of ICC Arbitration & DOCDEX Cases to be held on Saturday, 02 December 2023 at Golden Tulip Hotel, Plot.-84, Road-7, Block-H, Banani, Dhaka-1213.
Documentary credits are the lifeline of international trade transactions dealing with more than USD2.00 trillion worth annual transactions globally. The business world has witnessed significant number of trade disputes involving documentary credits. Settling trade disputes through litigation may appear time consuming and expensive. ADR has played an important role in settlement of many of these disputes. ICC International Court of Arbitration offers a range of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services and procedures and has achieved leadership status on dispute resolutions with an arbitration procedure which is rigorously supervised and enforced. DOCDEX is another ADR service of ICC which deals in documentary credit and collection disputes.
Bangladesh will be graduating to middle income country in 2026 and as such the country is likely to be deprived of a number of LDC benefits. Therefore, it is essential for all involved in international trade to learn about settlement documentary credit disputes out of court. The workshop has been designed to understand the ADR procedures and dispute resolution tools and discuss on the role of ICC Arbitration and DOCDEX in settlement of documentary credit disputes. Those who have passed CDCS, CSDG, CSCF and ICC Academy courses will receive 8(eight) Professional Development Unit (PDUs) for re-certification by attending this workshop.
