ICC Workshop on Obtaining Import Financing in Foreign Currency – Challenges and Solutions
About The Event
In a foreign exchange regulated environment such as Bangladesh, access to foreign currency financing is a key enabler of trade, helping importers and exporters secure working capital while preserving valuable liquidity and managing currency-related constraints. Whether financing the purchase of raw materials, commodities, finished goods, or capital machinery, well-structured foreign currency credit solutions can improve competitiveness, optimize cash flow, and support business growth. Instruments such as UPAS LCs allow importers to benefit from extended payment terms while ensuring timely settlement to overseas suppliers, whereas ECA-backed financing provides access to longer tenors and attractive funding costs for strategic investments and imports of capital goods. At the same time, companies and banks must navigate regulatory requirements, documentation standards, and evolving market conditions. The Workshop will explore the key challenges and practical solutions for obtaining import financing in foreign currency in Bangladesh, drawing on international best practices and authentic case studies.
Participants
The Workshop will be of importance to the officials of Bangladesh Bank, commercial banks, non-banking financial institutions, exporters, importers, risk management department and legal experts dealing with international trade. Participants can claim 7 PDUs / CPD hours for re-certification of all LIBF courses.
