Russia will take initiatives to launch transaction through banking channel shortly for expansion of bilateral trade with Bangladesh. Ambassador of Russian Federation GP Trotsenko said this while he paid a courtesy call on President (In-charge) of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) MA Latif at the Chamber’s auditorium today.

The Russian ambassador said bilateral trade between Russia and Bangladesh could not increase remarkably due to lack of exchange of trade information over the years.

Referring to generation of hydro-power, the visiting envoy said it is less expensive, environment-friendly and more profitable than gas and coal-based power generation.

In this connection, he gave the assurance of undertaking the initiative of handing over the hydro-power generation technology from Russia to Bangladesh.

Greeting the Russian ambassador, the CCCI president (in-charge) recalled the historic contribution of the Russian Federation to the Liberation War of Bangladesh with gratitude.

He said Bangladesh achieved remarkable progress in the ship-building sector during the recent period.

He also requested the Russian envoy to hand over the technology in this sector and the latter expressed willingness in this connection.
