The countrys renowned business personality and President of the International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICC,B) Mahbubur Rahman was crowned with the “Bangladesh Business Award” under the category of Lifetime Achievement Friday.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith handed over the awards at a ceremony at a city hotel in the evening.

The Daily Star and DHL Express, the worlds leading logistics company, have introduced “Bangladesh Business Award” to honour the countrys best businesses and the people behind them.

The awards were also given in five other categories — Outstanding Woman in Business to Sharmin Hossain, Chairman of Fasal — an agro-processing company, Enterprise of the Year to Anwar Hossain, Chairman of Anwar Group, Businessperson of the Year to M Anis Ud Dowla, Chairman of the Advance Chemical Industries (ACI), Best Financial Institution to Prime Bank Limited and Lifetime Contribution to insurance personality M A Samad (posthumously).

The awards have become the countrys premier recognition of businesses that have made major strides in economic development.

Congratulating all the recipients, AMA Muhith, in his speech as the chief guest, said this is the recognition of hard work.

He said the country has achieved so many things in the last three years due to determination which were apparently impossible and people are back to hard work.

Mr. Mahbubur Rahman is an emblem of a successful businessman-entrepreneur. Besides performing as the President ICC, B, he is also engaged with many activities mainly in view of promoting ethical business in the country.

In a cheerful reaction, Mr Mahbubur Rahman said ethical business is difficult in Bangladesh but not impossible.

He expressed his firm commitment to the ethical business in Bangladesh.

The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam said the country has both external and internal challenges which businessmen are to face.

Bangladeshi businessmen have very significant contribution to the countrys economy, overcoming many hurdles, he said adding the world is now taking a look at Bangladesh for their outstanding achievements.

Desmond Quiah, country manager of DHL Bangladesh, expressed his companys commitment to promotion of countrys business.

After completion of graduation from the University of Dhaka Mahbubur Rahman entered into business in early sixties and over the decades he founded a number of enterprises.

Apart from his business undertakings, Mr Mahbubur Rahman has been active in various other fields.

By taking up the responsibilities of ICC Bangladesh Limited Mr Mahbubur Rahman transformed it into a dynamic institution in Bangladesh.
