International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICC,B) will organise the conference titled “Global Economic Recovery: Asian Perspective to mark its 20 years of presence in Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.

A two-day international conference on Global Economic Recovery will begin in Dhaka from October 25, with the participation of global and local dignitaries, ministers, economists and leaders of business community from different countries.

International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICC,B) will organise the conference titled “Global Economic Recovery: Asian Perspective to mark its 20 years of presence in Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city. 

Organisers are expecting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to inaugurate the event. 

The dignitaries, who have already confirmed their participation, are Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait Dr Abdul Moshen Al-Medeij, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka Prof. GL Peiris, Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Minister for Industries and Commerce of Sri Lanka Rishad Bathiudeen, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Commerce and Supplies Minister of Nepal Sunil Bahadur Thapa,  Minister of Economic Affairs of Bhutan Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk and UNCTAD Secretary General Dr Mulhisa Kituyi.

ICCB President Mahbubur Rahman came up with the disclosure while addressing a press conference yesterday at the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCC) in the capital.

“From the perspective of a developing country that aims to attain middle income country by 2021, we are going to organise such a big event,” he said. 

The conference is expected to be attended by 500 delegates representing ministers, industry and business leaders, experts, economists, ICC leaders and academics from home and abroad, he said.

Mentioning the importance of the conference, ICCB President said the world economy, five years after the global financial crisis, is showing signs of bouncing back this year where Asia, led by China, Japan and India play a significant role. 

He said Asia will continue to lead the way for sustained world growth and therefore, it is imperative that the world leaders give their top most priority for the development of an integrated global strategy for sustaining the projected world growth momentum.

The conference will provide opportunity for the stakeholders representing public and private sectors, industry and business leaders, policy makers, think tanks and academics to share their thoughts and ideas on the strategies that the Asian countries can pursue to maintain sustained economic growth.

“It is a great opportunity for the country’s business leaders and policy makers not only to explore new horizon of business, but also to make effective use of international opportunities though interaction with the delegates coming from abroad.”

The business sessions, which will be held in second day of the conference, have been divided into four sessions. ICC is the largest and most representative business organisation in the world. It’s thousand of member companies in over 127 countries have interests spanning in every sector of private enterprise.
