Bangladeshi expatriates living in the United Kingdom (UK) are keen to invest in the country’s education, health and civil aviation sectors. The amount of the investment is about 3.0 billion US dollars. This was disclosed when an eight-member delegation of greater Sylhet district living in the UK met Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury at his office. Council President Mohammad Manchab Ali led the delegation.
The expatriates are likely to start Royal Bengal Airlines soon in Bangladesh. Besides, they are also eager to set up an English medium school of high standard and a hospital of international standard in the country. They told the adviser that the expatriates now feel encouraged to invest in the country since an investment friendly atmosphere has been created under the leadership of the present caretaker government. The council leaders demanded of the government to set up an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Sylhet and create opportunities for the expatriates to invest there.
